The Resurrection of the Body

Read 1Corinthians 15:35-58

This confession of the creed expresses the gospel hope, which is we look for the resurrection glory of the body. Job, Abraham and all the saints through the ages were not content with the knowledge that in death our souls went to be with our God; they looked earnestly for the day of resurrection glory when the soul would be reunited with the immortal incorruptible body. Our new covenant head, Jesus Christ, was the first-fruits of this glory.

Hope for the Hopeless

Read Isaiah 40:1-11, 27-31 with Matthew 9:14-26

These next series of miracles in Matthew 9 reflect upon, not Jesus' authority as the miracles of chapter 8 did, but upon the hope of the gospel Jesus brings to sinners. In today's text Jesus is dealing with matters that would challenge hope - the surety of eternal life and assurance in the sufficiency of Christ Jesus - such things as legalism, superstition, and fear of death. We also see the Lord Jesus gently and graciously restoring true hope in his mercy.
