Kneeling to Pray [2]

Read Ephesians 6:10-20 with Daniel 9:3-19

We are exhorted often in Scripture to be a people who pray without ceasing. What does that look like in our life. These verses of Ephesians 6:18-20 give us a picture of such prayer, which is not only a means of grace, but an activity of the church militant. In truth, as Paul closes this section on spiritual warfare, he shows that prayer is vital to standing against the schemes of Satan. The strength of any church ministry rest, in measure, upon the prayers of the church.

Kneeling to Pray

Read Ephesians 6:10-20 with Hebrews 4:14-16

After describing the various pieces of the Armour of God, which are necessary for Christians to be able to stand and withstand the schemes of Satan, Paul directs us to the chief means of grace given through the High Priestly ministry of Jesus Christ - All-Prayer; "praying always with all prayer and supplication..." Like the warfare, and being equipped with the armour of God, Paul has chiefly in mind the church praying. Even when reading The Lord's Prayer and Hebrews 4:14-16, preeminently it is corporate prayer in focus. Are you as a church kneeling to pray as you stand strong in the Lord and the power of his might?

The Sword of the Spirit

Read Ephesians 6:13-17 with Luke 4:1-13

The Holy Scriptures of God is a weapon of our warfare in the power of the Spirit, necessary to put to death the schemes of the devil. For all the defences the rest of the armour of God give us, it is the Word of God that wields the death blow to Satan's temptations and lyings schemes.

The Shield of Faith

Read Ephesians 6:14-16 with 1Peter 1:1-9

The imagery the Spirit uses for each piece of holy armour is significant. Faith is symbolized as a shield: its purpose is to cover the whole man; it is constructed that, even before meeting the enemy in battle, fiery arrows are shot, and this shield can quench them. So it is with faith. "Above all" take up the shield of faith!

The Belt of Truth

Read Ephesians 6:13-14 with Ephesians 4:17-25

The first piece of armour God has given us, in order to stand against the schemes of Satan, is the belt of truth. But what exactly do we mean by truth. This message focuses on the purpose of truth - the Word of God, the person of Jesus Christ, and the sincerity of truth in our life - and how excellent it is for being a holy child of God int his world.

The Way of the Righteous

Read Ephesians 6:10-20 with Psalm 1

This sermon is bridging two series: the one just complete on Walking in the Spirit and the place of the Fruit of the Spirit; and the one now beginning on Standing in the Lord and the Armour of the Spirit, from Ephesians 6:10-20. This Psalm holds God's intent for his people being "Happy Christians" who glorify him and enjoy him forever.
